I
joined Fairmont in November of 2002, after attending services
there for about 5 years. I began going to Fairmont because
it was close to NC State, a great place for me to spend time
with my younger brother. While
visiting, I became very good friends with Pastor Steve Hickle
(pictured below trumpeting),
who I often get together with for a cup of coffee just to talk
about life.
One
of the things that is very appealing to me about Fairmont is the
unique church atmosphere. It has a wonderful mix of older
members that link Fairmont to its long history, younger
families and single professionals. And finally, Fairmont
is the home to the Raleigh Wesley Foundation, a faith-forming
Christian community for college students to explore their
relationship with God and discover God’s unique plan and
purpose for their lives.
Also,
Fairmont (and the United Methodist Church in general) thrives on
a very mission- oriented philosophy. Methodism is a firm
proponent of actively influencing the lives of others through
service. I think that's what draws me to the UMC.
Fairmont continues to be very active throughout the world in
mission and our 'Alive In Missions' team offers an avenue to be active right here in our own
community.
If
you're looking for a church home, I would certainly encourage
anyone to visit Fairmont. It really is a great atmosphere
and I look forward to seeing my spirituality grow through my
membership.
