One of my favorite things to do with my spare time (mostly weekends) is go back and visit my alma mater, Elon University.  Elon is a wonderful institution with as much direction as any organization I have ever seen.  The Elon Vision which is now complete, was an institutional initiative established in 1990 with the objective of enhancing the academic and overall profile of Elon.  The plan called for the expansion and addition of several academic programs.  It also budgeted for the renovation and building of several facilities.  Nearly every academic building has gone through extensive technology upgrades in the past 7 years.  In addition, nearly $100 million dollars has been spent on a new student center, science building and library, with a brand new, gorgeous football stadium.  This campus is simply breathtaking.

Elon is now ranked in the top 10 among their south-eastern peers by US News & World Report in the latest college guide.  Elon has also been ranked among the top 10 schools in the country for lowest student to faculty ratio, a paltry 16:1.  With an average SAT score of over 1100, Elon is becoming positioned to compete with some of the historically powerful universities of the region, such as UNC, NC State, Duke, Wake Forest, Davidson and many others.

As a member of the National Alumni Executive Board, I have been incredibly privileged to be a  part of the exciting new name that Elon is making for itself, literally.  Last year's athletic metamorphosis from the Fightin' Christians to the Elon Phoenix is now accompanied by the June 1st change from Elon College to Elon University.
